~La Maison Panoramique~
St Cirq Lapopie, France
La Maison Panoramique is a charming 3-bedroom, stone cottage perched on a 300 ft. cliff above the River Lot in the exquisite Medieval village of St. Cirq Lapopie, among the Most Beautiful Villages of France. In a 2012 national poll, the French selected St Cirq Lapopie as their #1 favourite village in the entire country. It is in the land of sunflowers, truffles, duck, foie gras, and Malbec wines (“black wine”).
St. Cirq Lapopie is in the Midi-Pyrenees region, a 1.75 hour drive north of the Toulouse Blagnac International Airport. There are so many things to do. Start the day with a stroll to the top of the village to enjoy a coffee or espresso and a fresh-baked croissant or regional pastry. Walk along the river, picnic or swim at the local beach. Enjoy a traditional French country meal in one of the many delightful restaurants or make your own coq au vin or cassoulet in the fully-equipped gourmet kitchen with purchases from the bountiful local village markets. Visit the artists’ shops and galleries located throughout the village.
Tour the nearby 13th century Chateau de Cénevières. Taste wine at local vineyards (look for a sign offering “degustation”). See 30,000 year-old cave paintings at Pech Merle, only a few kilometers away in Cabrerets. Hike France’s Grand Randonée trail system. Boat or kayak along the river or even parasail above it. Fish for giant carp. Bike or drive the old winding road along the Lot River, considered to be the most beautiful 100 km in France. End the day with a glass of the extraordinary “Black Wine of Cahors” on the broad stone terrace, watching the sunset, the river, and the sheep grazing across the valley.
